Happy New Year! Last year’s Christmas in Roebling celebration was a great success, and so was the Roebling Museum’s House Tour!
The historic, “Preserve America,” village of Roebling, NJ, welcomed more than 100 visitors on our tour, including 13 stops at neighborhood homes buildings, businesses or churches.
Visitors walked the streets of this historic model company town-one of the most intact and successful historic towns, built as employee housing, remaining in America. They also had the unique opportunity to visit a number of homes and historic buildings throughout the village, providing an inside view of how employees and their families lived, and the exquisite architecture, design and detail that made the homes so welcoming.
In a rare and prestigious honor given by First Lady Michelle Obama, the village of Roebling and the Roebling Museum received the Preserve America Community Designation in 2011. Preserve America encourages and supports community efforts to preserve and enjoy our priceless cultural and natural heritage. The goals of the program include a greater shared knowledge about the nation’s past, strengthened regional identities and local pride, increased local participation in preserving the country’s cultural and natural heritage assets, and support for the economic vitality of our communities.
In celebration of Roebling’s status as a Preserve America community, the museum arranged for private village homes, historic churches, and a one-of-a-kind specialty shop to be opened to the public. Stay tuned for information about other historic village walking tours, a garden tour, and another house tour scheduled to take place in 2017!
